According to Karl Marx, history is the record of the

struggle between classes in society.

This means that Karl Marx believes that history is based upon the conflict between the upper, landowning class, and the working class.  Karl Marx predicted that the working (lower) class would rebel against and overthrow their higher class superiors, in order to create a society where there is equal distribution of goods and services.
