1/10 (x + 11) = -2 (8 - x)

Mult. both sides by 10 to remove fractions:

10(   1/10 (x + 11) = -2 (8 - x)   )  =>   x+11 = -20(8-x) = -160 + 20x 

                                                            x+11 = -160 + 20x  

Subtracting 11 from both sides,           x       =  -171 + 20x, or 171=19x.

Thus, x = 171/19.
