I believe the answer is: switch from one response alternative to the other and reinforcer delivery

According to the maximization theory, individuals would always make an effort to obtain better alternatives for themselves. So, in a concurrent situations , people tend to switch to the alternative that they see as 'better' and reinforce some sort explanation in their main to justify their action.
