Make an equation for this problem:

2(7 + x) + 3 = 25

Twice the sum of 7 and a number: 2(7 + x)

Three more than: + 3

is 25: = 25

---

Solve the equation by distributing 2 inside the parentheses.

14 + 2x + 3 = 25

Combine like terms.

17 + 2x = 25

Subtract 17 from both sides.

2x = 8

Divide both sides by 2.

x = 4

The number is 4.
