[tex]\bf (\stackrel{x_1}{-2}~,~\stackrel{y_1}{8})\qquad (\stackrel{x_2}{4}~,~\stackrel{y_2}{12}) \\\\\\ slope = m\implies \cfrac{\stackrel{rise}{ y_2- y_1}}{\stackrel{run}{ x_2- x_1}}\implies \cfrac{12-8}{4-(-2)}\implies \cfrac{12-8}{4+2}\implies \cfrac{4}{6}\implies \cfrac{2}{3}[/tex]

First of all the equation to find the slope between two points is y2 - y1 over x2 - x1. So, all plugged in, the equation would be 12 -8 over 4 - - 2 and you would end up with 4/6 as your slope.
