Y is equal to 105 because you divide 42 by 8 and get 5.25 (the amount it increased). then you multiply by its previous version 20 to get 105.

if x equals 8 but then equals 42 then you multipled by 5.25, so multiply 20 by 5.25. Which is 105, then y equals 105.
