If the sun is blocked out, plants will not have sunlight to perform photosynthesis which means they will eventually die. If plants are gone, then other creatures and animals that depend on plants will also die. Us humans depend on not only plants, but also animals as part of our food source which means that we will also slowly die, thus causing a mass extinction.
