It is false that soil is not directly important to animal life. Soil quality is important for animal life, especially for primary consumers such as deer, cattle and insects that depend on the vegetation derived from the soil for food and energy. Without good soil, the food chain would collapse because animals depend of primary producers such as shrubs and grass which are all dependent on soil and the organic material in that soil for their own proliferation.
