How do you subtract an integer from another integer without using a number line or counters? Give an example.

For example, if you have -12 - (-16), you just add the absolute value of the two numbers and put a - in front of it. 12 + 16 = 28. Now just put the sign in front of it and your done. -28 is the answer.
