The early British period was marked by great disunity amongst Indians, such as:

  • Lack of common interest.
  • Inequality and prejudice based on cultural differences (caste, creed, race), that created a barrier between them.  
  • Conflicts and wars to acquire larger territories provoked divisions among them.
