How does a lytic infection differ from a lysogenic infection?

in the lytic cycle the virus replicates and kills(lyses) the host cell but in the lysogenic cycle, viral DNA is just incorporated into the host genome where it stays and is passed on to following generations.

So a lytic infection kills the cells and would be a more severe infection compared to a lysogenic one.
