Deciding on the narrative point of view means that an author must choose

The major two types of point of view in a narrative are the First Person point of View and the Third person point of view - so the author must choose between the two.

So the narrator would either say "I went to the shop" or "The Protagonist went to the shop". Third-Person narrators can be omniscient - know everything about the story.
