Social motivations for imperialism were wanting to spread Christianity and wanting to spread different European beliefs, this would tie in with religious motives. The biggest one to give this away is "vision of some that white society must civilize societies perceived as uncivilized", a big social motivation for imperialism is that white was the superior race and they should civilize different peoples and cultures around the world.
