Well, first of all, there's no such thing as "an unbalanced force".
It's the GROUP of all forces acting on the object that's balanced or unbalanced.

The statement is as false as it can be.  An unbalanced group of forces
acting on an object is the ONLY way to change the direction in which
the object is moving.
