A teacher spends 1/6 of his salary on rent, 1/5 of his salary on home improvement, and 1/12 of his salary on utilities. If the teacher then has $3300 remaining each month, what is the monthly salary of this teacher?

1/6 + 1/5 + 1/12 = 10/60 + 12/60 + 5/60 = 27/60, which is 45%

leaving 33/60
33/60 = 55%

so 55% of what number is 3300
0.55x = 3300
x = 3300/0.55
x = 6000

check...
45% of 6000 = 0.45(6000) = 2700
55% of 6000 = 0.55(6000) = 3300

monthly salary for the teacher is $6000...but I really don't think teacher make that much..lol
