[tex] \frac{13}{(x + 2)} = \frac{8}{(x - 1)} [/tex]

By cross - multiplication

[tex] \implies13 \times (x - 1) = 8 \times (x + 2)[/tex]

[tex] \implies13x - 13 = 8x + 16[/tex]

[tex] \implies13x - 8x = 16 + 13[/tex]

[tex] \implies5x = 29[/tex]

[tex] \implies \: x = \frac{29}{5} [/tex]

[tex] \implies \: x = 5.8[/tex]
