Yearly income = $24,960

Monthly income = Yearly income / 12 months

= $24,960/12

= $2,080

Let

x = salary before the raise

$2,080 = x + 4% of x

2080 = x + (4/100 × x)

2080 = x + 0.04 × x

2080 = x + 0.04x

2080 = 1.04x

x = 2080/1.04

= 2000

x = $2000
