We can solve this system by elimination to solve for y by multiplying the top equation by 4 and the bottom one by -5.

[tex]4(5x + y = 2)\\-5(4x - 2y = 10)\\\\20x + 4y = 8\\-20x + 10y = -50\\\\14y = -42\\\\y = -3[/tex]

Now, with what we got for y, we plug it back into one of the original equations. I chose the top one.
