A girl is snorkeling 1 meter below sea level and then dives down another 0.5 meters. How far below sea level is the girl?

1 + 0.5 = 1.5 metres below sea level.

Simply answered, if the girl is 1 meter below and goes another .5 meters below she is then 1.5 meters below sea level.
