substitute for y

3x+2(-5-2x) = -8

3x-10-4x = -8

-10-x = -8

add 10 to both sides

-10+10-x = -8+10

-x = 2

divide both sides by -1

-x/-1 = 2/-1

x = -2

y = -5-2(-2)

y = -5+4

y = -1
