In Greek mythology, the beautiful youth who pined for the love of his own reflection was Narcissus.
He was so in love with himself that he ignored everything else in the world, and thus his youth, body, and beauty eventually withered away, until there was nothing left of him but a narcissus flower. Based on his name, we have the word narcissism.
