Well, in order to find the answer to this, you would need to divide 6.75 by 500.  Once you do that, then you would take your decimal point and move it to the right two spaces to find your percent.  Now you have your sales tax!  Here is how you would solve this problem:
6.75/500= 0.0135
0.0135=1.35%
1.35% is the sales tax.
