How do you solve 1 - r = -5. Please Explain!!

1-r=-5
add r to both sides so the one side cancels out, then it should be 1=r-5
then you add -5 on each sides (because what you do to one side you must do to the other) and it would then have r on its own side which would give you your answer of r=6. To check 1-6 does equal -5

R=6 because to get r by itself you subtract one from both sides giving you -r=-6. Since both sides are negative, they cancel and make it positive
