How does a free-body diagram tell you about the acceleration of an object? Explain.

A free-body diagram shows the vectors for all the forces acting on the body.  The resultant vector found by summing all the individual vectors represents the net force.

We know, acceleration is the force due to gravity, so as object is falling (free-body), acceleration would be negative (as directions are opposite), and if the body is on earth it's magnitude will be 9.8 m/s²
