How did abolitionists want to change US society in the early 1800s?

They initially wanted to stop the spread of slavery. They wanted all new states entering the Union to be free states. Ultimately, they began to push for the freedom of slaves throughout the country. However, not too many were ready to give them equal rights and some didn't think freedom should be immediate. Mainly because many states depended heavily on slavery.
