why have the pyramids of egypt survived whereas the ziggurats of mesopotamia didn't

It's mostly because of the material used. Egyptians used giant stone blocks that could hardly be damaged or destroyed in any way. Mesopotamian people used bricks made out of mud which could easily be destroyed if people weren't careful or if they would destroy it in wars. Wars couldn't destroy pyramids since nobody could even move the stones.
