He wrote the 'American Crisis' so he could inspire Americans to fight for independence from British rule.

It was to re-inspire the continental army (Americans). "The Crisis, No. 1" was also used to inspire and give positively through America.  He signed the pamphlets with the pseudonym "Common Sense."
