To solve, you have to first find out how many times -8 goes into 42. That would be 5 times, so your mixed number would first be 5. The remainder from 5*8=40 would be 2 because 42-40=2 so the fraction part would be 2/8 or 1/4 if you simplify so when u add the negative, your answer will be -5 1/4.
