Madison claimes that you cannot remove the causes of faction because 1) you cannot make all man have the same passions, 2) as long as men have reason, they will have competing interests and 3) you can't take away liberty because that is worse than having factions. I contend that Madison argued successfully that factions are a natural result of free men using reason.
