On January 1, 1984, companies were merged into seven independent Regional Bell Operating Companies:
1. NYNEX Corporation
2. Pacific Telesis
3. Ameritech
4. Bell Atlantic
5. Southwestern Bell Corporation
6. BellSouth
7. US West
