Leonardo da Vinci was considered a true renaissance man because he did every thing from art to math to science to sculpting the people considered him a renaissance man for those reasons and many more.

The term "Renaissance Man" refers to someone capable of excelling at a wide variety of activities in which Leonardo was an accomplished architect, engineer, painter,designer, physiologist, scientist and so on.
