Why did industry develop more slowly in the south than it did in the north?

The North had more railroads and more factories South did not have as many railroads and no factories so this made their development a lot slower. Having more railroads made it easier to transport supplies for the war. The South relied more on manual labor and did not want to invest the money and time into building industries.
