Divergence

It is the accumulation of changes and differences between groups which can lead to formation of new species. This can be applied in molecular level at which protein from homologous genes were derived. Duplication of gene makes divergence can occur between two genes within a species. Similarities between species that diverged are due to their common origin so such similarities are homolgies. This is contrast to convergence.
