start by simplifying the numerator and denominator:

Numerator:  multiply both terms by y to get ...y + x
Denominator: multiply both terms by y² to get....y² - x² 

So we now have:
[tex] \frac{y+x}{ y^{2} - x^{2} } [/tex]  factor the denominator
[tex] \frac{y+x}{(y+x)(y-x)} [/tex]  Reduce
[tex] \frac{1}{y-x} [/tex]
